Educational Award Scheme

The Association of Cardiothoracic Anaesthetists Educational Awards are open to all members of ACTA to support educational or research endeavours within the scope of the role of the Association to promote excellence in cardiothoracic anaesthesia. An amount of £10,000 is available during any single calendar year, and may be paid to a single applicant or divided between a number of applicants, at the discretion of the education committee.

An Award maybe used to visit another centre, in the UK or abroad, to learn new techniques or to contribute to local training or service development. An Award may also be used to assist with, or pump prime, a research project. Awards will not normally be made to assist with attendance at training courses (for example transoesophageal echo courses) or conferences unless there is a clear benefit to the wider membership of the Association.

Recipients of Awards will normally be expected to write a report for ACTA News, and may be asked to give an oral or poster presentation at an ACTA scientific meeting. Any publication arising from the use of an ACTA Educational Award must acknowledge the contribution of the Association; any equipment purchased with an Award will remain the property of the Association and must be indelibly labelled as such. If the Award is to be used to part-fund an educational or research activity, ACTA will require written confirmation that the rest of the funding required is available before any money is released.

Priority will be given to applications from younger members of ACTA who are developing their careers in cardiothoracic anaesthesia.

Applications should be made using the form on this page and should be submitted to the Honorary Secretary by the 30 th September each year. Applications will be adjudicated by the ACTA Education Committee and announced during the Autumn Scientific Meeting.
